Installation Instructions Countertop Ceramic Pre-filter Kit Connecting The Ceramic Pre-filter to Your Model CT This kit will allow you to add a ceramic pre-filter to your existing countertop filter system. It includes a standard countertop housing with the Doulton ceramic cartridge already installed, two 1/4" John Guest quick connect fittings (one already installed in the pre-filter housing) and 1/4" tubing to connect the ceramic pre-filter to your Model CT Countertop KDF/GAC filter. Modifying Your Model CT and Connecting Pre-Filter 1. First, remove the diverter from your kitchen faucet. 2. Then remove the metal fitting that connects to the faucet diverter valve from the IN of the Model CT by unscrewing counterclockwise (the IN and OUT of the housing is marked under the base). If you have a small sediment pre-filter connected to your Model CT, remove the sediment pre-filter, by unscrewing counterclockwise at the IN of the housing, and then unscrew the metal diverter fitting, on the small pre-filter. 3. Take the grey (or white) John Guest quick connect fitting and screw it into where you just removed the metal diverter fitting (the IN of your Model CT housing). 4. Now insert the one end of the 1/4" tubing into the newly installed quick connect fitting on the Model CT. Push the tubing all the way down, firmly, until it bottoms in the fitting. 5. Next, insert the other end of the tubing into the fitting on the ceramic pre-filter housing, until it bottoms (to remove the tubing, press down on the collet ring on top of the quick connect fitting, and pull the tubing straight out). 6. Install the metal diverter fitting (with white tubing attached) to the IN of the pre-filter housing. Screw in clockwise. 7. Finally, re-install the diverter on your water faucet. To Operate Move the spout over your sink, and rotate the knob on the diverter. Next, turn the water on cold only, and run the water for several minutes to flush out the cartridge. Then you must leave the filter unused overnight to set up the Doulton ceramic pre-filter. Run for a few minutes the next day and it’s ready to use. If the flow rate is slower than normal (1 gallon per minute), then you may need to clean the Doulton cartridge within the first week of use. See instructions Operating Tips You should run the water for a few minutes if you haven’t used the filter over night, or for several minutes after returning from a trip. The filter should be run at 1 gallon a minute or less for maximum chlorine removal. Any faster will reduce the removal percentage. If you’d like to install your filter under your sink, you can convert it for under counter use with our faucet conversion kit, part number "FK." Doulton Sterasyl Ceramic Pre-Filter The Doulton ceramic pre-filter (in the first housing) must be cleaned, using a 3M Scotchbrite brand pad (or similar pad), when the flow has dropped, or usually once per month or every other month. After you clean it, rinse in cold water, then re-install. You can clean the cartridge up to 40 times before it wears out (about once a month). When replacing with a new cartridge, run water through it for 5 minutes and then let your filter sit over night to set. If the flow rate is slower than normal (1 gallon per minute), then you may need to clean the Doulton cartridge within the first week of use. Operating Specifications and Warranty Information Maximum water pressure is 100 PSI and maximum operating temperature is 110 F. This warranty does not cover damage due to abuse, neglect, freezing, fire or other fortuitous event. No allowance is made for the consequential damage, labor or expense incurred as a result of a proven defect. Our filters are not warranted against sediment clogging. If the flow rate is significantly reduced, clogging is most likely. You can try to back-flush the filters by reversing the fittings on the housing to temporarily reverse the water flow. If you have a problem with your filter, call 1-248-788-3342 or e-mail info@thewaterexchange.net for technical support. |
