Remove the aerator from the end of you faucet and replace it with the diverter valve. To install, turn the diverter valve clockwise over the faucet end and tighten. If your faucet has outside threads, the diverter will fit without an adapter fitting ring.  If your faucet has inside threads, use one of the two enclosed adapter fitting rings and gasket, that fits your faucet's inside threads.  If your faucet has non-standard threads, you may need to purchase a special adapter from your local Home Depot or Lowe's or measure the opening and call us.

To Operate

Move the spout over your sink, turn on the cold water and slide the metal valve horizontally to divert the water to the filter and out its own spout; a long reach lead free spout allowing for placement flexibility on your countertop.  Run the water for several minutes to flush out the cartridge.  This will remove the carbon fines from the new KDF/GAC cartridge.  The water may contain air bubbles, but that will clear after a short break in period. Double countertop filters with the a ceramic pre-filter must be left overnight to set the cartridge.  Run for a few minutes the next day and it's ready to use. Turn the diverter knob back to it's initial position for unfiltered water from your sink faucet.

Operating Tips

You should run the water several minutes if you haven't used the filter over night, or after returning from a trip. Water standing in the filter can taste bitter due to excess zinc oxide produced by the KDF.  It's not harmful, and actually protects the cartridge from bacteria growth.  Running the filter before use will remove the taste.

The filter should be run at 1 gallon a minute or less for maximum chlorine removal.  Any faster will reduce the removal percentage.

If you move, or disconnect your filter from your faucet and store it, always keep water in the cartridge to prevent damage to the KDF media.

Testing for Chlorine and Cartridge Replacement

Before replacing the KDF/GAC cartridge, test for chlorine using the enclosed chlorine test strips. Place some filtered water into a cup and dip the test strip into the water moving it back and forth for 10 seconds. The color of the strip will determine if chlorine is present. If chlorine is present, then you’ll need to replace the cartridge. You must read the test strips immediately; otherwise they can change color and give a false reading. Additional test strips are available from Software Exchange LLC/The Water Exchange. Our cartridge has been tested to remove chlorine for over 12,000 gallons of water, and it still may be removing the chlorine after 3 years of use, but it is recommended that you replace the filter every two to three years. For well water without chlorine, it should be replaced after 1 or 2 years.

Replacing the KDF/GAC Cartridge - Evert 2 to 3 years

Remove the top of the housing with the enclosed wrench (counterclockwise) and discard the old filter. For the blue cartridge, insert the end with the washer into the wide end of the house, and the tapered end into the sump (the long end).  For the clear filter, insert the cartridge with the black (GAC) end toward the base (wide end of housing) and the gold end into the top (the sump).  Then hand tighten.  Run for several minutes to remove the carbon fines from the new KDF/GAC cartridge, and check for leaks.

Operating Specifications and Warranty Information

Maximum water pressure is 100 PSI and maximum operating temperature is 110 F.

Housing has a 1 year warranty. The KDF/GAC cartridge has a 3-year warranty, prorated at $1.65 per month of usage. 

This warranty does not cover damage due to abuse, neglect, freezing, fire or other fortuitous event. No allowances made for any consequential damages, labor or expense incurred as a result of a proven defect. NO WARRANTY FOR MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.

Our filters are not warranted against sediment clogging. If the flow rate is significantly reduced, clogging is most likely. You can try to back-flush the filters by reversing the fittings on the housing to temporarily reverse the water flow.
