Doulton Sterasyl Ceramic Bacteria Filter Instructions
Ceramic Candle Installation and Operating Instructions
Installation (all elements for cold water use only)
When inserting a filter element for the first time or replacing a used element with a new one, it is important to condition the filter with the incoming water using the following procedure:
1. Place the sealing water over the threaded mount
2. Fit the candle into the housing ensuring that a seal is made. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN. Then seal the housing.
3. Open the isolation valve/tap to allow water to flow through the filter to waste for 10 minutes.
4. Allow the filter to stand unused overnight.
5. Open the tap again for 2 minutes and allow water to run to waste.
The filter is now ready for use.
Note; If the filter is left to stand for more than 3 days then it is recommended that water be run to waste for 1 minute before using.
Filter Cleaning Instructions
If the incoming water contains particles, then the flow from the filter will gradually reduce. If this occurs, then the flow can be restored by cleaning the candle. Remove the ceramic filter from the housing taking care to prevent contamination of the end of the mount by contact with unfiltered water or dirty hands. Take a soft bristle toothbrush or scrub pad in one hand and cup it around the circumference of the filter element at the top - next to the mount. Under running water quickly rotate the element with the hother hand applying gentle even pressure with the brush or pad. Slowly work down the length of the filter element ensuring that the cleaning is uniform on the whole candle.
Note: Always wash your hands thoroughly before and after cleaning your filter and never use soap or detergent.
Sterilization
Sterasyl, Super Sterasyl, Supercarb and Ultracarb candles contain silver and do not require sterilization.
Standard grade candles require sterilization after cleaning. To do this place the candle in a container of water and boil for 20 minutes. Allow the candle to cool before replacing it within the filter housing
Supercarb, Ultracarb and Super Sterasyl candles contain water treatment media to remove Chlorine taste and other dissolved contaminants such as organic molecules or lead (Ultracarb only). For optimum performance, water flow should be restricted to approximately 1 1/2 liters per minute.
Super Sterasyl candles contain loose carbon media, and black particles may be seen in the water which is run to waste. This is normal and will clear as the water runs.
