GAC Refrigerator Filter Installation Instructions

Installing the Filter

This filter is designed for refrigerators with automatic ice makers and plumbed coffee makers and water coolers with ¼" outside diameter copper or plastic tubing.  It connects to your water line and refrigerator with ¼” quick connect fittings. The arrow indicates the direction of water flow.  To install, simply push the ¼” plastic or copper tubing firmly into the fitting until it bottoms. To remove the tubing, push down on the outer ring of the quick connect fitting and then pull the tubing out of the fitting.  After installation, run the filter for several minutes to remove the fine carbon particles. You may want to flush the cartridge into a pail before connecting the output to the refrigerator. Note, if your refrigerator has a built-in filter, you should remove the filter and have your plumber install a bypass line if necessary.  Some refrigerators allow the built-in filter to be removed without disrupting the water flow.  Before removing the built-in filter, consult your refrigerator instruction manual, or plumber, before removing it.

Operating Tips

You should run the water several minutes if you haven't used the filter over night, or after returning from a trip.

The filter should be run at 1 gallon a minute or less for maximum chlorine removal.  Any faster will reduce the removal percentage.

If you move, or disconnect your filter and store it, always keep water in the cartridge to prevent damage to the media.

Replacing the GAC Inline Cartridge

To replace your inline filter, order part number IL-GAC for $13.95, supplied without the fittings.  To remove the tubing from your old filter, push down on the outer ring of the quick connect fitting and then pull the tubing out of the fitting.  Unscrew the fittings from both ends, and install on the new inline filter cartridge.  Then re-install by pushing the tubing into the quick connect fitting until it bottoms.  Run for several minutes to remove the carbon fines from the new GAC cartridge, and check for leaks.

Our filters are not warranted against sediment clogging. If the flow rate is significantly reduced, clogging is most likely. You can try to back-flush the filters by reversing the fittings on the housing to temporarily reverse the water flow.
