Installation Instructions Under-counter Ceramic Pre-filter Kit Connecting The Ceramic Pre-filter to Your Model UC This kit will allow you to add a ceramic pre-filter to your existing under-counter filter system. It includes a standard countertop housing* with the Doulton ceramic cartridge already installed, two 1/4" John Guest quick connect fittings (already installed in the pre-filter housing) and 1/4" tubing to connect the ceramic pre-filter to your Model UC Countertop KDF/GAC filter. *We use a countertop filter housing (instead of an under-counter housing) because it does not require a bracket, and it can easly be positioned anywhere under the sink as a stand-alone filter. Connecting Your Ceramic Pre-Filter to Your Model UC 1. First, turn off the water supply to your under counter filter system. Then position the ceramic pre-filter housing in a convenient location under your sink. 2. Next, remove the tubing from the IN of your Model UC under-couner housing by pressing down on the collet ring at the top of the quick connect fitting, where the 1/4" tubing is connected. This tubing is coming from your water supply (connected to an E-Z Connector or Faucet Valve Connector). 3. Now insert the 1/4" tubing (from the water line) into the IN of the ceramic pre-filter housing by pushing down firmly, until it bottoms in the fitting (the IN and OUT of the housing is marked under the base). 4. Next, take the 1/4" tubing included with the kit and insert one end into the OUT of the ceramic pre-filter housing pushing down firmly unitl it bottoms in the fitting. 5. Now, insert the other end of the tubing into the IN quick connect fitting of your Model UC (the water line was originally connected there) 6. Turn on your water supply and check for leads. To Operate Turn on your faucet, and run the water for several minutes to flush out the cartridge. Then you must leave the filter unused overnight to set up the Doulton ceramic pre-filter. Run for a few minutes the next day and it’s ready to use. If the flow rate is slower than normal (1 gallon per minute), then you may need to clean the Doulton cartridge within the first week of use. Operating Tips You should run the water for a few minutes if you haven’t used the filter over night, or for several minutes after returning from a trip. The filter should be run at 1 gallon a minute or less for maximum chlorine removal. Any faster will reduce the removal percentage. Doulton Sterasyl Ceramic Pre-Filter The Doulton ceramic pre-filter (in the first housing) must be cleaned, using a 3M Scotchbrite brand pad (or similar pad), when the flow has dropped, or usually once per month or every other month. After you clean it, rinse in cold water, then re-install. You can clean the cartridge up to 40 times before it wears out (about once a month). When replacing with a new cartridge, run water through it for 5 minutes and then let your filter sit over night to set. If the flow rate is slower than normal (1 gallon per minute), then you may need to clean the Doulton cartridge within the first week of use. Operating Specifications and Warranty Information Maximum water pressure is 100 PSI and maximum operating temperature is 110 F. This warranty does not cover damage due to abuse, neglect, freezing, fire or other fortuitous event. No allowance is made for the consequential damage, labor or expense incurred as a result of a proven defect. Our filters are not warranted against sediment clogging. If the flow rate is significantly reduced, clogging is most likely. You can try to back-flush the filters by reversing the fittings on the housing to temporarily reverse the water flow. If you have a problem with your filter, call 1-248-788-3342 or e-mail info@thewaterexchange.net for technical support.
