Water Filters

Jacksonville, FL Water Report Quality Analysis

The water quality report for Jacksonville, FL is online at:
jea.com/about/pub/downloads/quality/2009WaterQualityReport.pdf

Generally, the water looks good, though Lead has been measured from 3.2 ppb to as high as 15 ppb (maximum contaminant level is 15 ppb) but KDF will reduce it along with small amounts of other metals like nickel, chromium, copper and barium.  You do have HAA5s and TTHMs, present in all municipal systems, but our KDF/GAC cartridge will reduce them.  Fluoride is at 0.73 ppm and we can remove 90 percent with our fluoride cartridge.  They add chlorine as the disinfectant measuring as high as 2.5 ppm, and KDF will neutralize it. See our NSF-53 Water Test at:

http://www.thewaterexchange.net/nsf-53_test.html

You do have some radioactivity, but below the maximum contaminant level.  Radium at a max of 1.1 pCi/l (MCL is 5) and Alpha Particles at 3.9 pCi/l (MCL is 15).  If you have a whole house water softener, it will reduce the radium and uranium. Alpha particles require reverse osmosis.   We don't sell softeners, but we do sell a softener cartridge that can be part of a filter system.

With the above information, I would recommend a double under-counter filter Model UCD-NAK with our KDF/GAC cartridge for chlorine and heavy metals (lead) at $189.95.  Our KDF/GAC cartridge will reduce lead, arsenic, chlorine, pesticides, TTHMs and HAA5s.   See http://www.thewaterexchange.net/sodium-water-filters.htm

If you want to remove the fluoride, you can add a third cartridge in a triple filter system, Model UCT-F-S for $299.95.

Currently Jacksonville is using chlorine as the disinfectant, but they may be changing to chloramines. If that's the case, the triple filter Model UCT-CH-F or UCT-CH-S would be recommended.

See http://www.thewaterexchange.net/under_counter_filters.html for our under-counter filters and
